HOTS & LOTS
What are HOTS and LOTS?
Cognitive Skills can be divided into lower order thinking skills (LOTS), and higher order thinking skills (HOTS). Learners need progressively challenging tasks so they can develop thinking skills. Students also need wait time.* Students need wait time, they need opportunities to stop, think and process new curricular concepts and language before they respond to questions.
BENTLEY, K. The TKT Course CLIL Module. Cambridge University Press, 2010.
The LOTS are the lower three skills defined by Bloom's Taxonomy: Remembering, Understanding and Applying. HOTS are three higher level skills: Analyze, Evaluate and Create. Order of skills? ... You can use all of these skills to create lessons with a lot of variety!
